11.07.2001 The Uncomfortable Question of Anti-Semitism Listen Listen

Forums: Should the U.S. modify its relationship with Israel?

Read Rosen's article "The Uncomfortable Question of Anti-Semitism"

Author Jonathan Rosen never lived through the Holocaust. His mother was born in America, so half of his family was never even threatened with the possibility of internment in concentration camps. He says he has always viewed America as a land of endless potential, and he did his best to live his life accordingly.

But Rosen says his awareness of anti-semitism has become more acute since September 11th. From a prominent Egyptian imam Sheik Muhammad Gemeaha saying that "only the Jews" could have destroyed the World Trade Center, to some pundits who have linked the attacks with the U.S.'s support of Israel, Rosen says Jews have once again been unwillingly placed into the center of war. This hour, the post-attack face of anti-semitism.

The Long View: The Global Economy Listen Listen

Globalization was the buzzword of the 1990's. As the World Trade Organization was formed to reduce trade barriers and the internet and cheap flights facilitated international communication and travel, we really were living in a "global village."

In the wake of the September 11th attacks and the ongoing concerns about national security, there are signs that nations may turn inward and move away from the tenets of globalization that many believe led to the prosperity of the 1990's: free trade, immigration, and international travel. Tonight, in Part 3 of our series on the "Long View," we look at the global economy 10 years down the line. Could further globalization be a key to solving the current crisis the world faces? Or could it be one of the causes?

Plus, The Washington Post's Kevin Sullivan has been talking to citizens around the world about their feelings on the U.S. led war on terrorism. He shares the results of his informal survey.
